Jacob B. Shumard

Associate

Jacob B. Shumard (“Jake”) had ties to the firm long before joining—his family has trusted its counsel for years. Today, Jake is an associate attorney focusing on tax and estate planning, probate, and estate administration. He was admitted to the Georgia Bar in 2021.

A native of Atlanta, Jake is a graduate of Greater Atlanta Christian School and later earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia, where he was elected Vice President of Public Relations for the Interfraternity Council. Unsure of his next steps, Jake followed his mother’s advice and went to law school.

Jake earned his J.D., cum laude, from the Thomas Goode Jones School of Law at Faulkner University in Montgomery, Alabama, where he appreciated the opportunity to study in a capital city. While in law school, he gained valuable experience clerking for Justice Brady E. Mendheim, Jr. of the Alabama Supreme Court and Judge Bess M. Parrish Creswell of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Alabama. He also served as the first legal intern for Governor Brian Kemp.

Jake began his legal career at Baker & Summy, PC in Duluth, Georgia, where he developed a strong foundation in real estate law. It was there that he discovered his passion for estate administration and developed a niche when local realtors began seeking his help to resolve title issues through probate. His background in real estate continues to inform his work, as many of his clients’ estate plans include real property.

Jake currently serves on the Board of Directors for Health Talents International and the Theta Chi Alumni Housing Corporation, which oversees the leasing of a historic home in Athens, Georgia, for the benefit of undergraduate students.

Jake lives in Peachtree Corners with his wife, Madi. Together, they enjoy traveling, long walks, and participating in their life group at Peachtree Corners Baptist Church.
